Giving the AI Context

The AI cannot see your inbox, your files, or what happened in yesterday's meeting. It only knows what's in the conversation. Good context is often the difference between a generic answer and a great one.
What to include:
• Background: who's involved, what's already happened, why it matters.
• Source material: paste the email, notes, data, or text it should work from.
• The audience: who will read or use the result.
• Your constraints: deadlines, tone, length, must-haves and must-avoids.
Examples:
• Instead of "Summarize this," paste the text and say "Summarize this for a busy executive in 3 bullet points."
• Instead of "Reply to this customer," paste their message and add "They're frustrated about a delay; offer a 10% credit and a new date."
Keep context relevant — paste the parts that matter, not everything. Too much noise can be as unhelpful as too little.
One safety rule: don't paste passwords, secrets, or sensitive personal data you wouldn't want stored. More on that in the responsible-use lesson.
