Asking for the Right Format and Detail

upvotes
The same question can produce wildly different answers depending on the format you ask for. Spell it out.
Control the shape:
• "Give me a bulleted list."
• "Put it in a table with columns for Option, Pros, and Cons."
• "Write it as a step-by-step checklist."
• "Reply in one short paragraph."
Control the depth:
• "Explain it like I'm new to this."
• "Keep it high-level — no jargon."
• "Go deep and include examples."
Control the length and tone:
• "Under 100 words."
• "Professional but warm."
• "Confident and concise."
When you're not sure what you need, you can also ask the AI: "What questions do you need answered to do this well?" — then fill in the gaps. Asking for the right format saves you the most editing time of any single tip.
